This quarter, I designed a backpack that is currently being fabricated. The bag is called the Oruga, the Spanish word for caterpillar. The bag is based upon the concept of open source design, and the final plans will be posted on Instructables. The bag can and should be made out of reused materials. The prototype was constructed out of duct tape, and the final bag will be constructed out of seat belt material.
The inspiration for the bag was the growing transient population throughout the world. The majority of these people live in slums, which have narrow roads. Hence, they are forced to carry all of their belongings and necessities. I designed this bag to ease that burden and hope that it will inspire better bag designs, which might be sold.

Check out my interview with Matt Smith from Tribal DDB.
I started the morning with a visit to Computational Drawings, a showcase for the work of David Lu. Naturally, I then linked to Velluminous.org, David Lu's professional portfolio. I was instantly struck by the portfolio piece titled Tenable Info. Tenable Info, which is explained in an online PDF, visualizes data from a Standford course called Sustainable Habits. Fascinating stuff for visual thinkers.
Through Mate Universe, I started looking at the eye candy on Psyop. Vibrant, high-definition graphics . . . I don't know what they mean, but they are fun to look at.
I am trying my hand at t-shirt design by entering the Threadless competition. Vote now. Vote often. Vote high.
This is a logo that I created for a magazine that I am designing this quarter. The magazine is called EO, after E.O. Wilson. The magazine is about the intersection of design and nature. The mark is based on the infinity symbol and the need for a continuous, renewable life cycle when designing products, from new chemicals to running shoes to pamphlets.
John Maeda dominates the scene, and Mike Mills creates a manifesto for humans. You love it so much it hurt.
Beautiful work is showcased on Oezlen-Sagir.
